Russia may soon commence some nine new flights to Cyprus per week, according to Minister of Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis.
The Minister noted that, following Russian airline Kogalymavia’s (Metrojet) unfortunate plane crash in Egypt on October 31, Russian airlines and tourism agencies are considering investing in other existing markets, including Cyprus.
Addressing the House of Representatives Finance Committee during the presentation of his ministry`s budget on Monday, Lakkotrypis added that there is also interest from the British market in commencing additional flights as of February 2016.
This enhanced interest in the Cypriot tourist market is considered a significant development, the Minister stressed, one which – if utilized correctly – may facilitate the island’s efforts to fulfill the potential of its tourist season between November and March, traditionally believed to be an ‘off-peak’ period.
