Cyprus offers a variety of unique advantages to Chinese investors in many sectors of the economy President Nicos Anastasiades has affirmed, in the context of his official visit to China.
Indeed, speaking to the Chinese News Agency Xinhua, the attractiveness of Cyprus as an investment jurisdiction will only increase in the coming months.
“Our aim is to continuously support the development of business and economic relations between Cyprus and China, especially in the fields of transport, tourism, energy, and telecommunications,” said Anastasiades.
Further to the development of bilateral relations, the local Government is also pushing through important economic reforms that will maximize the island’s growth potential, and thus deliver new investment opportunities to the private sector.
“In this way, Cyprus is reaffirming its reputation as a center of excellence for international investment and business activity,” he stressed.
Particular areas of interest to the Chinese business community include shipping, port privatization, electricity and telecommunications, marinas, golf courses, medical and health centers, rehabilitation centers, theme parks, tourism and the hospitality industry, land development, information and communication technologies, education, professional services and, of course, the energy sector including renewable energy as well as the hydrocarbons industry.
The island has already noted significant investor interest from Chinese parties, most recently welcoming China’s state COSCO company as a potential investor in the ongoing Limassol port privatization.
During his visit, President Anastasiades he will address a business forum in Beijing on the 17th of October, organized by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Another forum will also take place in Shanghai on the 18th of October, organized by the Cyprus Land and Building Developers Association.
