Cyprus will continue participating actively in the discussions leading to a Common Agricultural Policy for the benefit of all European producers, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Enviroνment, Nicos Kouyialis has said.
In a written statement about the EU Agriculture Ministerial Council, the Minister notes that the Council addressed important issues which affect the viability and competitiveness of the European agriculture.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, he further notes that smaller EU states, like Cyprus, which are faced with a disproportionate administrative management cost in relation to their financial dossier will benefit from the simplification of a common agricultural policy.
Referring to the negotiations for trade agreements with third countries, Kouyialis underlined the need to protect geographical indications and preserve the European model of production with regard to food safety.
